A ship unlike any other, the Royal Caribbean Freedom of the Seas will be the largest, most magnificent ship ever built. Even larger than Cunard?s famed Queen Mary 2, Freedom of the Seas will weigh a staggering 158,000 tons, be 1,112 feet long, and have a total passenger occupancy of 4,370 guests. Currently being built in Turku, Finland at one of the world?s leading ship building facilities, Kvaerner Masa Yards, Freedom of the Seas is scheduled to be launched in April of 2006 when she will begin voyages in the Caribbean. In fact, she will be the first of three ships released in three consectutive years.
Freedom of the Seas will have many of the same innovative features and amenities found on many of the other ships in the Royal Caribbean cruise line. You?ll still be able to shoot hoops on the basketball court, make use of the multiple swimming pools and whirlpools, stroll about the Royal Promenade, attempt that triple axel in the ice skating rink, and scramble up the rock climbing wall. Still among many new secrets yet to be unveiled, there will also be a new feature: bungee jumping. Now, rather than the traditional form of bungee jumping, this will be tweaked to be suitable for a cruise ship. However, the thrill is just the same.
Of course, you'll be able to find excellent dining, lots of shopping, comfortable accommodations, and stellar service. Not to mention the dozens upon dozens of activities and entertainment options woven throughout the 15 passenger decks.
Other features of Freedom of the Seas that are new to Royal Caribbean?not to mention the entire cruise industry?are the flat screen TVs that will be in 100% of the staterooms. Not only will this enhance a person?s media experience in his or her stateroom, but it will allow for much more space and comfort. And the WiFi capabilities and wireless connections throughout the ship will enable guests to use their cell phones onboard.
According to Richard Fain, the Chairman and CEO of Royal Caribbean, ?Freedom of the Seas will be the most head-turning, most innovative and most forward-looking ship in the cruise industry. Its name was chosen deliberately to convey the enormity of features and amenities offered on this extraordinary ship.? Indeed, Freedom of the Seas will be a ship like nothing that has ever come before it. Given its massive size, plethora of activities, and state-of-the-art technology, it makes you wonder what direction the ship building will take in the future.
